Electrochromic glass : what is it ?

Electrochromic glass is a smart glass, which is tinted automatically or manually to optimize the comfort of the occupants. Thanks to a powerful algorithm, it can adapt to the outside environment to maximize natural light indoors and therefore control glare and heat.

Electrochromic technology has several control methods. It can regulate itself, automatically. But you can also choose the opacity of the glass yourself using an App or a remote control, and modulate the entry of light according to your desires.

Working principle of electrochromic glass

How can a glass decide for itself to be tinted?

The Halio system is an intelligent system that can adapt to the building environment. Practically, a sensor is placed on the building. This sensor is used to measure the level of external sunlight. It communicates continuously with the internal system to allow it to adapt according to the internal level of brightness or the desired warmth. When the system is in transition, a low electrical charge (14W) is sent to the glass, which activates the electrochromic layers.

Would you rather modulate the external light on your own? You can also decide for yourself the colour of the glazing. Through the use of the Halio app, the remote control or thanks to your home automation system, you have the possibility of making the glass more transparent or more tinted.

Benefits of the Electrochromic Glass technology

The benefits of the technology provided by the Halio system are numerous. Among them, you find in particular:

  • Improved energy performance.

Buildings that use such a glazing system suffer less from energy loss than the others. At issue: the insulating glass reduces the air conditioning, turns off more lights, etc. In addition, the Halio glass is very good for acoustic insulation.

  • Enhanced thermal comfort.

Forget about the overheated glass roofs, the air-conditioned meeting rooms, or the stuffy offices. Thanks to the electrochromic glass, the temperature inside a building is more pleasant.

  • Optimal visual comfort.

Are you suffering from external glare all day long? With the Halio glass, you enjoy a more pleasant and less aggressive light, from dawn to dusk, while keeping your view on the outside.

  • The benefits of natural light.

The outside light is beneficial for concentration. It also increases worker productivity and the overall sense of well-being of the occupants of the building. The applications of its benefits can be found elsewhere in many sectors. In cultural facilities, for example, the preservation of artwork is easier with this type of window. In the healthcare sector, it has also been proven that patients exposed to natural light recover more quickly.

Finally, electrochromic technology has multiple applications. This is indeed a system that benefits to all occupants of a building. Halio can be used on the facade, to make glass roofs or as internal partition walls to create flexible spaces.
